GAC meets to discuss Ukraine, Middle East, EU enlargement

Brussles, 19 March 2024 (MIA) - The EU General Affairs Council (GAC) will meet in Brussels on Tuesday to prepare for the European Council meeting taking place on March 21-22. GAC will be chaired by the Belgian minister of Foreign and European Affairs Hadja Lahbib.
Ministers will discuss draft conclusions and focus on the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East, EU enlargement, security and defence, as well as agriculture policy.
The European Semester, the EU’s framework for coordinating socio-economic policies, is also on the agenda. Ministers will review the Belgian Presidency's report on the Council contributions to the 2024 European Semester, and discuss the next steps in the process. The Council will also look into the draft recommendations on the economic policy of the Euro Area.
In addition, EU leaders will exchange views on the future of Europe, addressing in particular the internal reforms needed to make the EU fit for future enlargements.
