FVA: Strumica tap water ban continues

FVA: Strumica tap water ban continues

Strumica, 16 October 2024 (MIA) — Strumica's residential water is still unsafe to drink, the Food and Veterinary Agency said Wednesday after the national Public Health Institute labs again found dangerous levels of ammonia and manganese in the city's water supply from the Turija water reservoir.

On Oct. 4, inspectors took eight samples of the local tap water during an extraordinary inspection and none of them were safe to drink, the FVA told MIA.

The drinking water ban is still in place, the agency said.

Residents in Strumica and six nearby communities have been warned to stay away from tap water for drinking since three weeks ago.

On Oct. 8, a water ban was also issued for Vasilevo residents, who also get their water from the Turija reservoir. mr/
