French swimmers scoop medals at Ohrid Swimming Marathon
Ohrid, 21 August 2021 (MIA) - France's Axel Reymond and Oceane Cassignol won the gold medal after winning Saturday’s 50th Ohrid Swimming Marathon of the 2021 FINA UltraMarathon Swim Series.
Axel finished the 25-km race in 5h10m31s00 with Italy’s Edoardo Stochino close behind him (5h10m32s00), who took the silver medal. Macedonian marathon swimmer Evgenij Pop Acev finished third in 5h10m34s50.
Oceane Cassignol of France took 5h16m39s3 to win the race, followed by France’s Caroline Jouisse in (5h45m42s20), who took home silver, and Argentina’s Pilar Geijo, who closed the Ohrid podium in 5h47m21s40.
The Ohrid Swimming Marathon is held under the auspices of President Stevo Pendarovski, who greeted the winners at the finish and handed them laurel wreaths.
The top prize for the winners is 10,000 dollars.
The first race in the series, hosted by Canada, was cancelled. Two races will take place following the Ohrid marathon in Italy and Argentine.
Established 50 years ago, the Ohrid Swimming Marathon also marks the 35th anniversary since being reintroduced.
