Four die in Belgium as flood waters strike parts of Western Europe
Brussels, 15 July 2021 (dpa/MIA) – At least four people have died in Belgium as flood waters engulf parts of Western Europe and the nation mobilizes rescue services, the Belga news agency reported citing authorities. Belgium’s growing flood crisis has resulted in about 3,000 people having been evacuated and brought to safety. Strong currents meant that some of the worse-hit areas could not be reached by boat. Helicopters to help with rescues could also not be used because of the weather, officials said. “Belgium faces unprecedented rainfall,” tweeted Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, adding that all rescue services were being mobilized, while European partners were dispatching a rescue team and helicopter to the nation.
