Skopje, 18 September 2023 (MIA) — Renovations of restrooms and construction of wheelchair ramps have been completed in 40 schools across the country, education authorities said Monday.

According to the Ministry of Education and Science in a press release, the works completed over the past month included school restroom renovations and adaptations for students with disabilities as well as building wheelchair access ramps to schools' entrances. Renovation works in some schools also included floor and classroom repairs.

The works were part of the state's plan for improving learning conditions and accessibility in 118 schools, with financial help from the World Bank.

Renovations will continue next year in schools nationwide, the release says.

"Improving infrastructure conditions, along with the replacement of curricula and the purchase of new textbooks as well as raising teachers' work motivation through higher salaries and professional and career development opportunities are part of the Ministry of Education and Science's greater strategy for improving the quality of primary and secondary education, adopted through a wide public debate and with the approval of all stakeholders," the release adds. mr/
