Skopje, 1 April 2024 (MIA) – The Skopje-based Criminal Court decided Monday to release former Administration for Security and Counterintelligence (UBK) director Sasho Mijalkov on parole on December 25. His parole will last until April 25, 2025.

The Criminal Court’s decision comes after the Appellate Court in Skopje upheld Mijalkov’s appeal, and sent back his case to the Criminal Court to again decide on Mijalkov's request for parole.

His counsel filed an appeal after the Criminal Court rejected the proposal of the Struga jail director for Mijalkov's conditional release.

“Acting upon the proposal of the director of the Struga prison on the issue of parole for convict S.M., the Criminal Council at the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption, following a public session and a review of all the documents in line with the instructions from the Appellate Court in Skopje, decided to uphold the proposal of the prison’s director,” the Criminal Court said in a press release, adding that the decision can be appealed at the Appellate Court.

Mijalkov is serving his sentence in Struga, after he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years in prison in the "Empire" case.
