Skopje, 20 May 2024 (MIA) - Former Administration for Security and Counterintelligence (UBK) director Sasho Mijalkov is set to be released from prison on Thursday under the condition that he doesn’t commit a criminal offense by April 25, 2025, the Skopje-based Appellate Court ruled.
In a press release, the Appellate Court said the decision comes after Mijalkov’s appeal of a decision by the Basic Criminal Court in Skopje, and was made at a closed session on May 14, 2024.
“At a closed session on May 14, 2024, the Appellate Court adopted a decision upholding the appeal of convict S.M. from S., changing the decision of Basic Criminal Court – Skopje, so that the convict is set to be released on May 23, 2024 under the condition that he doesn’t commit a new criminal offense until the expiration of the conditional release on April 25, 2025,” the Appellate Court said.
Mijalkov appealed the decision of the Basic Criminal Court in Skopje which granted him a conditional release from December 25, 2024 and until April 25, 2025.
The former secret police chief is serving his sentence in Struga, after he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years in prison in the "Empire" case.
