Former secret police Chief Sasho Mijalkov released from prison

Struga, 23 May 2024 (MIA) - Former Administration for Security and Counterintelligence (UBK) director Sasho Mijalkov was released from the Struga prison on Thursday at 9:32 am where he served a prison sentence for the 'Empire' case, Struga prison director Valon Kjura told MIA.

Mijalkov's release follows the approval of his appeal by the Skopje Appellate Court to be released on May 23, on condition that by April 25 next year, he does not commit a new criminal offense.

"The individual was an exemplary prisoner, helping other convicts. He worked as a driver and was a dutiful worker. He used his vacation days and free weekends to go out in the city, like other convicted persons," said Kjura.

He has no remarks regarding MIjalkov's time spent in the Struga prison.

Mijalkov was received a three-year prison sentence in the 'Empire' case trial, after which his properties were confiscated. He was convicted for criminal association, illegal acquisition and hiding property. Mijalkov served his prison sentence in Struga instead of the Idrizovo prison in Skopje after changing his home address from Skopje to Ohrid. ssh/sk/
