FM Osmani to take part at EU conference on countering disinformation and foreign interference

Brussels, 23 January 2024 (MIA) - Foreign Miniter Bujar Omani will take part at conference "Beyond Disinformation: Strengthening our societies against Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference”, hosted by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, in Brussels on Tuesday.

High Representative Borrell will deliver a keynote speech on the topic and present the second European External Action Service (EEAS) report on foreign interference and information manipulation threats.

FM Osmani is set to address a high-level panel discussion together with Raphael Glucksmann, Chair of the 2020-2023 EP Special Committee on Foreign Interference in Democratic Processes (INGE) and Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, Marie-Doha Besancenot, Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy of NATO, and Melissa Fleming, Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications of the United Nations. The event will be concluded by Vice-President of the European Commission Věra Jourová with an address on the European Commission’s activities to tackle threats to democracy.

The event aims to bring together stakeholders from partner countries, EU Institutions and Member States together to foster an even better understanding of how we can bring multi-stakeholder cooperation against foreign information manipulation and interference to the next level, EEAS said in a press release.

The second EEAS report on foreign information manipulation and interference threats describes the current threat landscape, deals with questions about effective countermeasures and sets out a comprehensive response framework, helping all stakeholders in cooperating more effectively in fighting information manipulation.
