Skopje, 30 July 2021 (MIA) – As soon as Bulgaria forms a new government, Skopje will intensify talks after August 15 in order to make a breakthrough as early as September, Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani stated Friday. “If there’s political will to solve the issue, which has been also affecting Bulgaria’s position, I think there is a way and the EU presidencies of German and Portugal proved that there is a way. The proposal has been taken over by Slovenia’s presidency and we hope we can engage more intensively after a government is formed after August 15 to make a breakthrough as early as September,” Osmani told reporters, stressing he didn’t want to get the public’s hopes up regarding the matter. We, he noted, are prepared to engage strongly in a diplomatic process to settle the differences in line with the national positions, which were once again reaffirmed in Parliament yesterday. On Thursday, North Macedonia’s Parliament adopted a resolution establishing national positions in the context of blockades in the EU integration process, which was filed by the opposition party VMRO-DPMNE. 96 MPs voted for the document with 95 voting in favor and one in abstention. Earlier, the MPs passed an amendment, filed by a group of MPs, on including the constitutional name of the Republic of North Macedonia into the resolution. According to Osmani, it is vital Bulgaria to create political predictability. “It has proven key in for progress in the process of finding solution to the differences we have.” A caretaker government has been in power in Bulgaria since its July 11 elections. Osmani said the parties have resumed communication considering certain issues, including the second intergovernmental commission session to define a roadmap. “However, it depends on whether Bulgaria will get political government,” he said. Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said Thursday that talks with Bulgaria aimed at finding solution to open issues and lift the EU integration veto will resume as soon as Bulgaria forms a government after the July 11 early elections.
