FM Osmani has meeting with top officials of US, allied countries on Afghanistan
Skopje, 22 August 2021 (MIA) – Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani was invited by US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman to attend a video-meeting dedicated to the latest developments in Afghanistan. In addition to North Macedonia, EU and NATO member countries as well as other friendly countries from different parts of the globe took part, that are ready to offer refuge to Afghan civilians fleeing the country after it was taken over by the Taliban. Osmani informed the allies about the successful evacuation of our nationals from Afghanistan, with some of them already back in the country, and thanked the partners for supporting North Macedonia in the process, said the Foreign Ministry. Image preview “North Macedonia has completed all necessary preparations as we are ready to host a small segment of the peaceful population from Afghanistan, mostly women and children and members of humanitarian organizations that in the past 20 years have taken part in building the democratic processes in that country with the help of NATO allies, including North Macedonia’s army. Demonstrating solidarity, which is key in these difficult moments for the people of Afghanistan, it is the least we can do for them,” Osmani said. Participants also discussed the current security situation in Afghanistan reaffirming joint efforts to overcome current challenges and reduce risks of new humanitarian crisis, said the press release.
