FM Osmani: Any agreement with Bulgaria will be discussed in Parliament
Skopje, 28 January 2022 (MIA) – The issue involving the agreements with Bulgaria, which are crucial for the citizens, to be conditioned with a daily politics issue, such as early elections, lacks seriousness, Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani said Friday.
Whoever tries to tie a strategic interest with a partisan interest, they would lose, he noted. “The citizens will identify it and punish it, I’m sure of it.”
“As to whether [any agreement] would be approved in Parliament, I will repeat that it hasn’t been my position, because I believe we should respect the resolution already passed in Parliament. As part of the agreement, we should implement certain stages,” Osmani told Slobodna TV’s Morning Briefing show when asked whether the opposition might condition the agreements with Bulgaria with early parliamentary elections in the coming period.
Bulgaria insists, he added, that whatever the two countries agree, it should be discussed in Parliament.
“It is what our people, here, require, as well as the opposition, different political rivals are agreeing with the Bulgaria position. So, it will be ratified in Parliament,” Osmani said.
FM Osmani is due to address the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by VMRO-DPMNE MP Antonio Miloshoski, to brief lawmakers about the course of the negotiations and the overall relations between North Macedonia and Bulgaria.
