Skopje, 4 July 2024 (MIA) - In accordance with the Law on Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade has summoned North Macedonia’s Ambassador to Rome, Vessel Memedi, for consultations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade told MIA.

The Ministry said the date for consultations with the Minister is yet to be determined.

In February, Memedi notified the Italian authorities that valid travel documents bearing the name “Republic of Macedonia” are invalid as of February 12, 2024. VMRO-DPMNE then accused Memedi of individually taking actions with which he caused harm to the Macedonian citizens in Italy.

A few days after Memedi’s note, the MFA, led by former Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, issued a new note to the Italian authorities informing them that Ambassador Memedi hadn’t received any instructions to deliver notes on the issue.
