FM Mucunski holds farewell meeting with Canadian Ambassador Norman

Skopje, 15 July 2024 (MIA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski held Monday a farewell meeting with Canada’s non-resident ambassador Giles Norman.

Thanking the ambassador for his overall efforts, Mucunski said his engagement and continued efforts have contributed to strengthening the bilateral relations and strategic partnership between North Macedonia and Canada, the Foreign Ministry said. 

They discussed their partnership in NATO, most notably after the successful Washington Summit, highlighting the shared commitments of the two countries to enhancing transatlantic stability amid the current security challenges. They also welcomed the country’s participation in the Enhanced Forward Presence in Latvia, as part of Slovakia’s contingent where Canada is the Framework Nation. “By being part, we jointly contribute to strengthening the NATO eastern flank at a time when it is most needed,” said the press release. 

Talks also included the country’s EU integration process and Canada’s unwavering support to the process was expressed. Cooperation as part of international organizations and efforts made to enhance it in the coming period was welcomed, according to the Foreign Ministry.

They also discussed regional developments as well as current issues in the field of foreign policy and security.
