Fire on Croatian island threatens popular beach clubs
Budapest, 9 August 2022 (dpa/MIA) — A fire broke out in a pine forest on the Croatian holiday island of Pag early Tuesday and threatened a popular party beach. The flames came dangerously close to the clubs on Zrce beach near the town of Novalja on the Adriatic. Authorities brought to safety several thousand people who were partying there, Croatian media reported, citing police. No one was injured. In addition, 200 cars parked in front of the clubs had to be removed because they made it difficult for firefighters to access the forest. Eventually, 50 firefighters with 20 fire trucks and several firefighting aircraft brought the flames under control. Several other forest fires were active along the Croatian coast on Tuesday. Firefighters were largely able to contain the blazes and keep them away from populated areas.
