Finance Ministry: Improved IMF growth projections for Macedonian economy in 2023

Skopje, 10 October 2023 (MIA) – The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) projections for the growth of the Macedonian economy are close to the projections made during the drafting of the 2023 budget, said the Ministry of Finance in a press release on Tuesday.

In the press release, the Ministry said the IMF is significantly improving the domestic economy’s outlook for 2023.

“The International Monetary Fund improved the expectations for the growth of the Macedonian economy with the autumn projections. In the World Economic Outlook, which the Fund published yesterday, the growth of the domestic economy for 2023 is projected at 2.5 percent or 1.1 percent more compared to the IMF projections in April 2023. In terms of the rate of inflation, the IMF expects to see it drop this year and next, and is expected to return to the historic level of 2 percent in 2025,” said the Ministry.

In the medium term, the IMF expects an accelerated growth of the domestic economy of 3.5 percent, reduction of general government debt and of the unemployment rate, said the press release.
