Filkov: Waiting for nearly ten days for Judicial Council to decide whether judge Pajaziti abided by the laws

Skopje, 1 September 2024 (MIA) – Justice Minister Igor Filkov said the judge Pajazit Pajaziti’s decision placing former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) fighter Blerim Ramadani under house arrest was wrong and against current practices.

Ramadani in August escaped from house arrest and left the country.

This matter should be a priority, Filkov said adding that the public for nearly ten days is waiting the Judicial Council to decide whether Pajaziti had acted according to the laws.

“If we’re being honest, we’ll admit that the decision of the judge Pajaziti reflects everything that has been undermining the legal state system. We will fight it unconditionally to amend this. This is why we need thorough reforms. This decision suggests we need reforms in order to build a legal system that ensures justice for all,” Filkov told Faktor in an interview.

As regards the reforms announced in the Judicial Council, Filkov said the aim is to create a completely independent judicial body that will make legally grounded decisions.

“We’ve begun strengthening its independence with its new members to be proposed by the judges and prosecutors themselves rather than by the government, the assembly of the president. We gave the Council time to elect its new members by voting or by using any other mechanism. However, they still haven’t made any effort,” the Minister stated.
