Filkov - Le Rigoleur: France to support judicial reforms with expert assistance

Skopje, 3 October 2024 (MIA) – Justice Minister Igor Filkov met Thursday with the French Ambassador Christophe Le Rigoleur and discussed cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of judiciary, projects and reform agenda.

Ambassador Le Rigoleur welcomed Minister Filkov’s reform plans and expressed France’s readiness to assist in all process with different types of support, including expert assistance, aimed at preparing for European Union membership, the Ministry of Justice said in a press release.

Minister Filkov also informed that, as of September 16, 2024, French expert Cécilia Maronnier, who has extensive judicial expertise, has begun her assignment. On our part, the press release notes, all the necessary conditions have been provided to ensure her uninterrupted work.

The cooperation with the liaison judge in Belgrade and the internal security attaché in Skopje, whose activities contribute to the implementation of reforms, was highlighted as particularly significant, according to the Ministry of Justice’s press release.

The meeting also focused on the legislative agenda of the Ministry of Justice, the announcements for public debates on the proposed amendments to the laws on the Judicial Council and the Public Prosecutor's Office, as well as the 2024-2028 Judicial Sector Development Strategy.

Filkov and Le Rigoleur committed to deepening cooperation in the coming period and strengthening bilateral relations.
