Filkov: Efficient judicial system a key factor in upholding rule of law

Skopje, 6 November 2024 (MIA) – An efficient judicial system plays a key role in upholding the rule of law, along with ensuring the judiciary's quality and independence, Justice Minister Igor Filkov said Wednesday addressing the 15th session of National Convention on the European Union in the Republic of North Macedonia.

FIlkov underscored that an efficient judicial system is essential for upholding the rule of law and combating crime and corruption, as well as ensuring fundamental human rights and freedoms.

"An efficient judicial system plays a key role in upholding the rule of law, along with ensuring the judiciary's quality and independence. It is not only one of the main prerequisites for creating a favourable, business-oriented investment environment, but also a key factor in the fight against crime and corruption, and a guarantee of fundamental human rights and freedoms," he said.

Filkov underscored that the duration of court cases is a critical factor in judicial efficiency and prolonged cases continue to pose one of the greatest challenges in the judiciary, leading to violations of human rights.

He underscored that the ministry is fully committed to supporting the work of the judicial reform platform and actively participates in creating recommendations to improve conditions in the judiciary and public prosecution.

The topic of the 15th session of Working Group 3, Judiciary and Fundamental Rights, is 'Access to Justice: Improving the Efficiency of Court Procedures and the Quality of Justice,' resulting in various tasks aimed at improving conditions.
