Filipche: New right-wing gov't creates policies degrading workers' rights

Skopje, 31 August 2024 (MIA) – Social democratic parties should unite and develop a strategy for a new approach that will successfully respond to the changes happening in the countries in Europe, SDSM leader Venko Filipche said addressing the 13th Korchula think tank school.

“It is the duty of social democrats to protect democratic values and offer a clear strategy for solving of the essential issues facing the citizens. A top priority in my program as leader of the Social Democratic Alliance of Macedonia is to reaffirm the genuine social democratic values and adjust them to the needs in today’s social and economic context, not only in North Macedonia but also across Europe and beyond,” he said.

Filipche said that in addition to the difficult domestic and geopolitical circumstances, the SDSM-led government remained on the reform path, guided by social democratic principles, improving public services, social aid programs and workers’ rights, SDSM said in a press release.

“In the coming period, SDSM will work tirelessly to solve the problems of the citizens and to tackle any attempts made to humiliate the workers and their hard work. The new right-wing government has policies planning to degrade the rights of the workers and to restore a model of wild capitalism. This model will seriously affect the standard of the citizens contributing to accelerated increase in social differences. SDSM in its new program offers an efficient model of economic growth in which workers’ rights and the living standard will grow,” stated Filipche.

He warned that Europe has been facing a wave of nationalistic and authoritarian regimes posing a threat to peace and stability.

“That’s why, social democratic parties must unite and find a joint way to end this threatening situation,” Filipche told the event.
