Filipche: Delta Plus Covid variant not detected in North Macedonia
Skopje, 22 November 2021 (MIA) – Forty-eight patients have been examined who tested positive in the past two to three weeks, and the Delta Plus Covid variant hasn’t been detected in any of them. This variant is responsible for a rise in new Covid-19 cases and hospital admissions in all neighboring countries, which means we cannot stop it from spreading in our country too, Health Minister Venko Filipche said Monday evening ahead of a meeting with representatives of the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia and the Independent Trade Union for Health, Pharmacy and Social Protection. The meeting will focus on the COVID-19 draft-measures for public sector employees and health workers recommended by the Commission for Infectious Diseases. According to Filipche, the country’s faced with a severe risk in the coming period of a new virulent wave of the pandemic that can critically affect hospital capacity. “The situation in neighboring countries also shows us that unvaccinated patients are admitted for hospital treatment, which means now is the right time for citizens to realize how important this is, time for all stakeholders to support this process so that as many citizens as possible get vaccinated in the shortest possible time, in order to avoid overwhelming hospitals,” Filipche added.
