Few election irregularities reports filed to prosecution offices
Skopje, 31 October 2021 (MIA) – A relatively small number of reports in relation to election-related irregularities have been filed to the committee tasked with monitoring election irregularities, set up as part of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, said public prosecutor Xhelal Bajrami. Bajrami, who is the head of the committee, added that investigations have been launched after cases were opened in relation to the reports. A case of vote buying in Skopje’s Shuto Orizari municipality, reported on Oct. 30, will be investigated as evidence is being collected. Kochani prosecutors will probe several reports filed by two political parties that voters had been intimidated. Also, Delchevo prosecutors filed charges against one person for vote buying in Makedonska Kamenica. Radovish prosecutors will look into a case involving a person who voted in person at a polling station despite being ordered to self-isolated due to contracting COVID-19. Kichevo prosecutors will investigate an incident in which a voter took photos of the ballot while another voter tore up the ballot as they look into the facts Also on Saturday, a non-governmental organization reported that one of its observers had faced threats posted on social media and the matter is being investigated. “The Public Prosecution Office continues to monitor the election process and is looking into possible election fraud,” prosecutor Bajrami said.
