Fetai, Sarrazin discuss European integration, priority reforms

Skopje, 27 November 2024 (MIA) – Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Good Governance Policies Arben Fetai and Germany's special representative for the countries of the Western Balkans Manuel Sarrazin met Wednesday and discussed the government's strategic priorities regarding European integration as well as the need to speed up the country's accession to the EU.


According to an official press release, Deputy PM Fetai stressed the government's strong commitment to advancing key reforms, including strengthening the rule of law, intensifying the fight against corruption, and building stable and functional democratic institutions.


He also highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting interethnic harmony and linguistic diversity as the foundations of the country's cohesion and development.


The German envoy stressed the importance of fulfilling the obligations arising from the negotiating framework and encouraged the government to seize the opportunity to open membership negotiations. 


Sarrazin said there was a broad consensus within the EU on the need for its enlargement with the Western Balkan countries. mr/
