Father indirectly informed perpetrators about girl's morning routine: prosecutor

Skopje, 4 December 2023 (MIA) - Skopje Public Prosecutor's Office Chief Prosecutor Gavril Bubevski said Monday the three detained suspects admitted to the crime of abducting and killing a 14-year-old girl from Skopje.

Vanja Gjorchevska was found dead near Skopje after she was reported missing upon leaving her home for school in the early hours of last Monday. The suspects also admitted to the murder of a 74-year-old Veles citizen Panche Zhezhovski, who went missing five days earlier, and whose vehicle was used for Vanja's abduction. Zhezhovski's body was also found buried near Veles.

"Three of the five persons have admitted their involvement and tasks in commiting the crime. They committed two crimes: abduction for the purpose of monetary benefit, and murder," said prosecutor Bubevski.

On the involvement of Vanja's father in the crime, the prosecutor said two of the suspects admitted to receiving information about the girl's morning routine from him.

"There is still no evidence showing that the father knowingly informed the suspects about the time when the girl would leave her home. We have no information over his involvement in the murder. One of the suspects said the father had provided the information about the girl," said Bubevski.

He added that the investigation is also focusing on whether the father and suspects had any business dealings between them.

Bubevski said the primary suspect, who has meanwhile fled the country, organized and committed the murders. He also urged against any speculation over the involvement of Vanja's mother in the case.

Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski said an international arrest warrant would be issued for the person who has fled the country.
