Ex-UBK chief’s detention revoked with immediate effect, says court
Skopje, 29 December 2021 (MIA) – Skopje’s Criminal Court said the Appellate Court forwarded Wednesday afternoon a decision by which the second instance court revokes with immediate effect the detention of former director of the Administration for Security and Counterintelligence (UBK) Sasho Mijalkov over the ‘Vodno Lots’ case. Earlier today, the Appellate Court’s spokesperson Tatjana Dukovska told MIA that the court has upheld the appeal of the defense against the detention of former UBK chief Sasho Mijalkov. The decision has been sent to the Skopje-based Criminal Court which is expected to forward it to the Skopje prison in Shuto Orizari where Mijalkov is serving the detention measure. There’s still no information on whether Mijalkov will be released tonight. Dukovska added that the decision will be published in detail on the Appellate Court’s website on Thursday. Mijalkov’s attorneys previously requested release from detention over the ‘Vault’ case on a EUR 11,1 million bail, as a guarantee of no flight risk. The Appellate Court released Mijalkov from detention last Wednesday but the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption then issued detention order in relation for the case dubbed ‘Vodno Lots’ where Mijalkov is one of the defendants.
