Ex-UBK chief released from Skopje prison after Appellate Court revokes detention measure

Ex-UBK chief released from Skopje prison after Appellate Court revokes detention measure
Skopje, 29 December 2021 (MIA) – Former director of the Administration for Security and Counterintelligence (UBK) Sasho Mijalkov was released Wednesday evening from the Skopje prison after the Appellate Court revoked his detention measure over the ‘Vodno Lots’ case. Earlier on Wednesday, the Skopje-based Criminal Court said the Appellate Court had forwarded a decision by which the second instance court revokes with immediate effect the detention of former UBK chief Sasho Mijalkov over the ‘Vodno Lots’ case. Appellate Court spokesperson Tatjana Dukovska told MIA that the court has upheld the appeal of the defense against the detention of Mijalkov. Dukovska added that the decision will be published in detail on the Appellate Court’s website on Thursday. Mijalkov’s attorneys previously requested release from detention over the ‘Vault’ case on a EUR 11,1 million bail, as a guarantee of no flight risk. The Appellate Court released Mijalkov from detention last Wednesday but the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption then issued detention order in relation for the case dubbed ‘Vodno Lots’ where Mijalkov is one of the defendants.
