Ex-secret police chief agrees to 3-year sentence after pleading guilty in Empire case
Skopje, 8 July 2022 (MIA) - Former secret police head Sasho Mijalkov admitted guilt in a plea bargain as part of the so called Empire case and agreed to serve three years in prison. He also agreed to have his assets, estimated at roughly EUR 30 million, confiscated, Vilma Ruskovska, head of the prosecution for organized crime and corruption, confirmed to MIA. "According to the appraisals for 2011, 2013, 2016 and 2016, the real estate is valued at nearly EUR 17 million. Since real estate value has risen, given the fact that there are 25 apartments in Skopje, we think the whole property is valued at close to EUR 30 million," stated Ruskovska. Thirteen people, including Mijalkov and businessman Jordan Kamchev, have been charged in the Empire case with criminal association, abuse of office, embezzlement and money laundering.
