Ex-minister Jankuloska on conditional release as of November after Appellate Court upholds appeal

Skopje, 12 October 2023 (MIA) - The Skopje-based Appellate Court has upheld the appeal of former minister of interior Gordana Jankuloska and she will be on conditional release as of November 1 until the completion of her prison sentence on 28 September 2024, provided she does not committ another crime, the Court said on Thursday.

The court took into consideration the personal circumstances, primarily the fact that the sentenced person is a mother of a five-year-old child, as well as the information from the penitentiary institution that she observed the institution's house rules, did not manifest any violent or conflict behavior, had a sense of personal and societal responsibility, and diligently carried out her tasks while engaged in the institution's library.

In September 2020, Jankuloska started to serve the four-year prison sentence in the case dubbed "Tank", related to the unlawful procurement of a Government 'Mercedes S-600' in the amount of EUR 600,000. The court also sentenced former head of procurement at the Ministry of Interior, Gjoko Popovski, and ex PM Nikola Gruevski in the same case.
