EVN Home accepts AD ESM bid at EUR 60 per MWh of electricity

EVN Home accepts AD ESM bid at EUR 60 per MWh of electricity

Skopje, 20 June 2024 (MIA) - Universal electricity supplier EVN Home has accepted the bid from AD ESM at EUR 60 per megawatt hour to cover 85 percent of the needs. For the remaining 15 percent, three bids have been received at the tender for the July-December period, but they have not been accepted due to higher prices compared to the current market prices.

EVN said it has also received bids from the companies Duferco, ESM Sales and Sole 24.

As of July 1,  2024, EVN continues to supply electricity to households and small consumers.

"The contract with the Government on providing universal service was signed on June 18, 2024, followed by a licensing process in the Energy Regulatory Commission. This process, which is necessary to ensure the continuity of electricity supply, represents a great challenge, due to the short period until the validity of the existing licence expires, as well as the open questions regarding the way to approach the extending of the licence for the period of the next 5 years. Under the complete supervision of the Energy Regulatory Commission and in accordance with the legal obligations and previously established methodology, in the coming period EVN Home will calculate the price of electricity according to pre-determined input parameters," EVN said in a press release.

The final price includes the price at which AD ESM sells electricity to EVN Home, the price of the Electricity Transmission System Operator MEPSO, the price of the National Electricity Market Operator MEMO, as well as the price of the Distribution System Operator Elektrodistribucija.

A group of MPs from the VMRO-DPMNE-led “Your Macedonia” coalition submitted Thursday in Parliament a bill amending the law on energy in a fast-tracked procedure aimed at preventing the household electricity price from rising.

"Under the bill, the standard of the citizens will be protected and drastic increase in the energy price will not be allowed," VMRO-DPMNE leader and PM-designate Hristijan Mickoski said.

According to the bill, Mickoski noted, a 5-percent rise of the electricity price will be prevented, which was expected as of July 1 according to a recent decision of the caretaker government.
