Every politician is responsible for own statements, says Minister Kostadinovska-Stojchevska
Skopje, 25 November 2022 (MIA) – Every politician is responsible for his/her own statements. The ones that you are referring to are neither European nor supportive of today’s beautiful event, said Culture Minister Bisera Kostadinovska Stojchevska at Friday’s opening of the Bulgarian Culture and Information Center in Skopje, in reference to the irredentist statements of Bulgarian MP and leader of the ultranationalist Revival party, Kostadin Kostadinov.
Kostadinov, who attended today’s event, said earlier this month that “Macedonia is the second Bulgarian state on the Balkan Peninsula” and pledged for country’s unification with Bulgaria.
“Revival is active in the unification of the two Bulgarian state formations into one country. The path to this unification is full economic, cultural and political integration, leading to revival of the disrupted unity of the Bulgarian nation, thus making Bulgaria the biggest and strongest country in Southeast Europe,” Kostadinov said on that occasion.
In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a verbal note to Sofia, saying such positions go directly against the spirit of the bilateral Friendship Treaty, which focuses on mutual respect as the basis for enhancement of goodneighborly relations, and are not in the spirit of European values and the alliance in NATO.
