Eurostat: 42% of EU population, 37.7% of Macedonians aged 25-34 have tertiary education level

Brussels. 13 November 2023 (MIA) - Around 42 percent of the EU population aged 25–34 had a tertiary level of educational attainment in 2022, according to an Eurostat analysis published on Monday.

MIA's Brussels correspondent notes that according to Eurostat data, 37.7 percent of citizens in North Macedonia have a tertiary level of educational attainment.

Of the 240 regions in EU, the number of citizens with a tertiary level of education aged 25-34 exceeded 45 percent in 72 regions, surpassing the EU’s policy target for this area.

At the top end of the distribution, there was the Lithuanian capital Vilnius with 73.6 percent, followed by the other 11 regions where at least 60.0 percent of young people had a tertiary level of educational attainment, including the Basque country, Northern and Western Ireland, Utrecht in the Netherlands, Paris, Warsaw, Budapest, Stockholm, Oslo, Luxembourg and Copenhagen.

On the other hand, there are 17 regions in Europe where less than a quarter of all people aged 25–34 had a tertiary level of educational attainment - 7 out of the 8 regions in Romania (the exception being the capital region), 3 regions in Hungary, 2 regions in Bulgaria, a single region in the Czech Republic, 3 regions in the south of Italy and the outermost region of French Guiana. ssh/ik/
