European Front requests Parliament to discuss security situation, submits no-confidence motions against ministers

Skopje, 3 December 2024 (MIA) - The European Front’s MPs submitted a request Tuesday for Parliament to discuss the security situation in the country at the next session. The coalition also submitted motions of no-confidence against Deputy Prime Ministers Izet Mexhiti and Ivan Stoilkovikj, as well as Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski and his Deputy Astrit Iseni.

Party whip Blerim Bexheti said at a press conference Tuesday that the MPs are requesting information about the security situation in the country in recent times, as well as information about “the selective approach” in the processing of participants in incidents and details about the institutional response and prevention of potential similar events. They are also looking for answers regarding the protocols used in case of selective action by officials from the Interior Ministry, as well as the mechanisms for supervision of the work of security services, especially in sensitive situations.

Bexheti also said the European Front has submitted motions of no-confidence against four members of the Government, who according to Bexheti, have no ethnic legitimacy: Deputy Minister and Minister of Environment Izet Mexhiti, Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski, his Deputy Astrit Iseni, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Inter-Community Relations Ivan Stoilkovikj.

Bexheti accused the Government of creating a “climate of tensions, distrust and intolerance” between the ethnic communities in the country, “with the clear intention to accuse the Albanians of destabilizing the country”. He noted that a destabilized North Macedonia is the direct interest of Russia, “who wants to undermine the stability of the Western Balkans and halt the EU integration processes”.

“Russia continues its agenda to maintain influence in the region. The presence of people such as Stoilkovikj, who is noted for his ties to Putin and Vulin, in top government positions is clear proof of the infiltration of this agenda in the country’s structures,” Bexheti said.

The European Front’s whip stressed that destabilization serves the interests of the current Government, “which isn’t capable of implementing what is key for the continuation of the Euro-integration path – the constitutional amendments, which are necessary to move the country’s EU integration process forward”.

He urged the Albanians in the country to remain calm and to avoid “becoming the prey of obvious provocations”, while noting that the “international factor” is monitoring the events in the country and acting to prevent all efforts to destabilize it.
