European Front coalition holds mock-Parliamentary constitutive session

Skopje, 18 April 2024 (MIA) - DUI-led European Front held a mock-constitutive Parliamentary session in Skopje, on Thursday, illustrating what would happen if they win the parliamentary election. Attendees unanimously voted, with 120 votes in favor of constitutional amendments according to the Friendship Treaty, and by which the head of state would be elected in Parliament with a two-thirds majority and the Badinter principle. Bujar Osmani was inaugurated as head of state.

Attendees verified the mandates of MPs and Ziadin Sela was elected Parliament Speaker.

The third item on the mock session's agenda was the proposal and adoption of constitutional amendments and the inclusion of Bulgarians, Croats, Montenegrins, Slovaks, Jews and Egyptians in the Constitution of the Republic of North Macedonia.

Party leaders within the European Front coalition - Munir Kolashinac of the Bosniak Democratic Union (BDU), Fatima Osmanovska of Party for Full Emancipation of Roma (PCER), Arjanit Hoxha of European Democratic Party, Skender Rexhepi-Zejd of People's Movement, Bejxhan Iljaz of Democratic Party of Turks, Ziadin Sela of Alliance of Albanians and Ali Ahmeti of DUI also gave speeches.

They stressed their support for constitutional amendments and the implementation of the Friendship Treaty. They said the country strongly needs a consensual president and gave their support for the adoption of constitutional amendments on the principle of electing a president with a two-thirds majority and Badinter principle so that, as they noted, there will finally be a president for all citizens.

The fourth item on the mock session's agenda was the solemn declaration for president of the Republic of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani.

In a statement to the media, European Front's Artan Grubi said that today's mock session represents the idea of what this coalition will insist on in the Parliament and Government.

"Mr. Ziadin Sela was elected Parliament Speaker. Constitutional amendments were adopted in accordance with the Friendship Treaty, also according to the method of electing a president from the 2029 elections, whereby the president would be elected in Parliament with a two-thirds majority and the Badinter principle," Grubi said. ssh/nn/
