Skopje, 24 July 2024 (MIA) - Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani met Wednesday with the USAID Country Representative for the Republic of North Macedonia, Jeri Dible to reaffirm US support in efforts to strengthen democratic practices and institutions, increase economic development, and improve the quality of education in the country.
According to the Ministry of European Affairs, Minister Murtezani expressed gratitude for the continued assistance that North Macedonia receives from the US through USAID programs. These programs focus on promoting judicial reforms and transparent governance, advancing decentralization, enhancing economic competitiveness, promoting energy efficiency, and developing policies to align with EU regulations, among other significant reform areas.
“USAID’s presence in our country is crucial for achieving our strategic priorities – EU membership,” Murtezani said.
The current Country Development Cooperation Strategy 2020-2025, as noted, focuses on providing support to promote a prosperous, democratic, and secure state committed to Euro-Atlantic integration. This aligns closely with our efforts to build a modern European democracy.
The interlocutors agreed that the two countries will continue to work in partnership to achieve North Macedonia's priorities, encourage reforms that support the country on its path to EU membership, and promote responsible leadership. Both USAID and the Government of North Macedonia will remain dedicated to advancing their shared vision through a partnership that has lasted for more than three decades.
