Europe House Skopje turns three
Skopje, 4 November 2022 (MIA) - Europe House Skopje marks its third birthday on Friday. On this occasion, EU Ambassador David Geer presented the plans to expand the Europe House network in other cities, the Delegation of the European Union said in a press release.   “Three years have passed since the then President of European Parliament David Sassoli (1956 – 2022) symbolically handed the key of Europe House Skopje to the Macedonian youth. It replaced the former EU Info Centre in order to serve primarily the young people and operate as youth hub. Today, on the 3rd birthday there are 3 Europe Houses in North Macedonia – in Skopje, Kriva Palanka and Strumica. And on the 4th (of November), Ambassador Geer presented the plans for 4 new Europe Houses – in Bitola, Struga, Tetovo and Veles. These new ‘places of the new generation’ will be opened in the course of 2023, thus ensuring balanced presence,” reads the press release.  The presentation, it adds, was done to the Mayors and representatives of the respective municipalities and the Minister of Culture, Bisera Kostadinovska-Stojchevska.    “Europe House Skopje’s birthday programme will pay tribute to the cultural legacy of the Macedonian painter Lazar Lichenoski (1901 – 1964). An open call encouraging young artists (age 18-35) to create a continuation of the evolution of humanity presented in Lichenoski’s outdoor mosaic “Apotheosis of Labour”. The mosaic actually glorifies labour, which is the main element of 2023 being the European Year of Skills,” the press release reads.  The EU Delegation adds that all birthday activities will be carried out in partnership with the National Gallery. Some of them will take place at the Museum House of Lazar Lichenoski in Skopje, while others include an art exhibition of all sorts of artwork produced by students and professors from the Faculty of Fine Arts in result of their inspiration from the legacy of Lichenoski. The artwork will be accessible to the public via social media. Activities also include an art workshop for children at Europe House Skopje, as well as launch of Culture Talks i.e. series of debates towards raising awareness that cultural heritage is also a cultural future. The first such debate, titled “Think Forward – Because Culture Matters” will pay tribute to Vjosa Berisha (1972 – 2022), the former Director of Europe House.  Europe House Skopje birthday programme is available at https://www.euhouse.mk/3rd-europe-house-birthday/ .
