Brussels, 25 March 2024 (MIA) - European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the resolution adopted by the UN Security Council demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. 

"I commend the vote today at the UN Security Council that calls clearly for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The European Council last week unanimously called for an immediate humanitarian pause leading to a sustainable ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages and the provision of humanitarian assistance," Michel posted on the X platform.

"Implementation of this resolution is vital for the protection of all civilians," von der Leyen said on X.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said the resolution which demands an immediate ceasefire during Ramadan needs urgent implementation by all. He pointed to the need to expand flow of aid and protect civilians.
