EU helps to speed up accession process, undertaken obligations must be fulfilled, Marichikj says after meeting with Lajčák

Skopje, 19 September 2023 (MIA) - Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj after meeting Tuesday in New York with the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue and other Western Balkan regional issues, Miroslav Lajčák, wrote on Facebook that the European Union is working on the plan to speed up the EU integration of the region and that the undertaken obligations must be fulfilled, as it is important the EU accession negotiations to be completed faster.

“The atmosphere in Brussels is positive for the enlargement and the EU member states support our European integration, a political momentum that we must use with greater confidence and strong determination by all. Membership in the EU is a state geopolitical interest and our main goal, therefore it is our duty to stay on the EU path,” Marichikj said.

Lajčák confirmed that the EU helps to speed up and achieve EU membership, and therefore we have to make a decision sooner in our favour and not allow ourselves to fear for our future due to internal factors.

The meeting also tackled the negotiation process of North Macedonia and the next step that leads to new progress and full entry into the Cluster negotiations, which, as Marichikj said, will impose a new pace of reforms.

“The government has the will to fulfil its tasks, our European partners and citizens expect every institution to take responsibility for positioning North Macedonia on the EU map,” Marichikj added.
