Skopje, 18 October 2024 (MIA) – EU Award for Investigative Journalism 2024, recognizing the best investigative stories in North Macedonia, will be presented Friday in Skopje’s Europe House at a ceremony organized by the Independent Trade Union of Journalists and Media Workers (SSNM), Thomson Media and the EU Delegation in Skopje.

EU Ambassador Michalis Rokas will address the event alongside Valentin Neshovski, president of the jury for the EU Award for Investigative Journalism.

Founded by the European Union in 2015, the EU Award for Investigative Journalism for Western Balkan countries and Turkey aims at promoting outstanding achievements in investigative journalism and increasing the visibility of quality journalism in Western Balkan countries and Turkey.  

Journalists were invited to submit investigative stories published in media outlets in North Macedonia between January 1 and December 31, 2023, which focused on freedom of expression, rule of law, transparency, abuse of power and fundamental rights, corruption and organized crime. 

The annual award fund is 10,000 euros per country, 5,000 euros will be awarded to the first-place story, 3,000 euros (second place), and 2,000 euros (third place).

The project is funded by the European Union, and it is implemented by a consortium composed of Balkan Investigative Reporting Network – BIRN Hub, Central European University (CEU) – Hungary, Association of Journalists (AJ) – Türkiye, Thomson Media (TM) – Germany, University Goce Delcev Stip (UGD) – North Macedonia, The Independent Union of Journalists and Media Workers (SSNM) – North Macedonia, Media Association of South-East Europe (MASE) – Montenegro and Balkan Investigative Reporting Network Kosovo (BIRN Kosovo).
