Ethiopia's Tola wins Paris Olympic men's marathon, Ivanovski in 69th place

Paris, 10 August 2024 (MIA) – Ethiopia's Tamirat Tola won the Paris Olympic men's marathon on Saturday, while Macedonian long distance runner Dario Ivanovski finished the race in 69th place.

Tola crossed the finish line in 2:06:26, a new Olympic Games record, securing his first Olympic gold medal, with Belgium's Bashir Abdi finishing 21 seconds behind and Benson Kipruto taking bronze for Kenya, 34 seconds back.

Ivanovski, who is the first Macedonian marathon runner in Olympic history, crossed the finish line in 2:28:15, 21:49 minutes behind Tola.

Ivanovski was the last Macedonian representative to perform at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In addition to Ivanovski, Vladimir Egorov (wrestling freestyle 57 kg), Nikola Gjuretanovikj (swimming 400m freestyle), Anastasija Mojsovska (10m air rifle shooting), Edi Sherifovski (judo), and Mila Relikj (taekwondo), represented the country at the 2024 Sumer Olympic Games.
