Skopje, 11 April 2022 (MIA) – Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM) is set to build four photovoltaic power stations totaling at 280 MW within mining-power complex (REK) Bitola.
The first 20 MW station will be located within the complex, right next to the thermal power plant.
A conceptual project for the station is currently drafted by the consultant of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), followed by the technical specifications and tender for the selection of a contractor, ESM said in a press release.
It adds that the second power station of 60 MW will be constructed at the site of the now-closed Suvodol coal mine.
A tender for selection of a consultant over the feasibility and environmental studies is ongoing, followed by the project on the best financing model. The KfW Bank has granted the funds for the studies’ development, says the company.
The third 100 MW power station will also be built at the Suvodol site, whereas the fourth, also a 100 MW station, will be located at the Brod-Gneotino mine.
In addition, ESM is making preparations for the construction of a 250 MW-gas power plant in REK Bitola, which is set to provide electricity but also heating energy for the Bitola region.
ESM says the projects demonstrate REK Bitlla’s commitment to energy transition aimed at replacing coal-fueled electricity production, in parallel with the retraining of staff in operating the new production facilities.
