ESM has completed procurement procedures, 7-day crisis declared being a responsible gov't: minister

Skopje, 25 December 2025 (MIA) – No one could have predicted that the farmers in Greece will stage protest for days. AD ESM [Power Plants of North Macedonia], which fall under the government’s jurisdiction, has completed procurement procedures according to the procurement plan. Acting responsibly, we declared a seven-day crisis, said Energy Minister Sanja Bozhinovska in a response to an MP question about the energy supply crisis.

DUI MP Rina Ajdari asked why no actions were taken to protect the citizens from prices rising with the electricity bills going up, saying “this is no energy crisis, it is a crisis of irresponsibility.”

“Being a responsible government, we will distribute reserves of the heavy fuel oil without compensation. We’ll allow ESM to take the heavy fuel oil reserves and when the Greek farmers stop protesting, they will be supplied with the oil derivative,” Bozhinovska said at the Q&A session.

Regarding the rise in electricity prices, she said prices are formed by the Energy Regulatory Commission.

“According to the Reform Agenda, the state shouldn’t give 100 percent, but 75 percent of the amount. Being responsible toward our citizens, we provide the 100 percent. Over 100 euros is the price on the market, we give it for 65 in order to cushion price shocks,” said the minister.

Bozhinovska added that the new law, fully aligned with the European Union, regulates measures on energy poverty.
