ESM's Kovachevski: Delivery of one million tons of coal and 250,000 tons of mazut being agreed with Greece
Skopje, 13 September 2022 (MIA) - ESM CEO Vasko Kovachevski said Tuesday that North Macedonia and Greece held talks to agree the delivery of one million tons of coal and 250,000 tons of mazut.
Coal will be supplied primarily for the coal power plant REK Bitola with some quantities also being provided for REK Oslomej, whereas mazut is supplied for the thermal power plant in Negotino as well as for Bitola and Oslomej, Kovachevski said in a Top Tema interview for Telma TV.
"Today, we've been agreeing in the next 12 months to secure a delivery of nearly 80,000 tons of coal a month, mainly for the needs of REK Bitola, but some quantities will be used also for REK Oslomej. In 12 months, we should provide one million tons of coal according to a competitive price. We believe these quantities will meet the necessary additional coal quantities for the production of additional electricity. Today, we discussed about quantities we will need from November until April, for seven months," Kovachevski said.
We, he added, will need 30,000 - 35,000 tons or a total of 250,000 tons a months while the heating season is on. Of those, 80% - 90% will be intended for the Negotino thermal power plant although some will be also for the plants in Bitola and Oslomej.
The head of the electricity producing company mentioned that a contract for the procurement of 144,000 tons of mazut was concluded in late February and early March and the procurement will last up until October.
