Escobar visits Kosovo, no plans to meet Kurti
Pristina, 23 August 2022 (MIA) - US Special Envoy, Gabriel Escobar, is expected to arrive in Kosovo on Tuesday, and travel to Serbia on Wednesday, MIA's Pristina correspondent reports.
A brief announcement by the US State Department said that "the Deputy Assistant Secretary Escobar is traveling to Pristina and Belgrade to support the dialogue between both countries".
Escobar is to meet with President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, and attend a working dinner on Tuesday with the leaders of the three biggest opposition parties, Memli Krasniqi (Democratic Party of Kosovo), Lumir Abdixhiku (Democratic League of Kosovo) and Ramus Haradinaj (Alliance for the Future of Kosovo).
During his stay in Pristina, Escobar will not meet with PM Albin Kurti. Kosovo government spokesperson Perparim Kryeziu told TV Klan Kosovo that no meetings are scheduled in the PM's agenda for today.
Escobar's visit comes after a meeting between Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Brussels, which ended without a deal, as well as in anticipation of the beginning of the implementation of Kosovo's decision towards Serbia regarding travel documents and license plates announced for September 1.
The EU's Special Representative for Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Miroslav Lajčák, will also visit Pristina and Belgrade on Wednesday. dk/nn/
