Athens, 23 May 2024 (MIA) - The President of the European People’s Party (EPP), Manfred Weber, urged the leadership of VMRO-DPMNE to respect the Prespa Agreement and use the name North Macedonia in a post on social media platform X on Thursday, MIA’s Athens correspondent reports.
“The VMRO-DPMNE leadership should fully respect the binding Prespa Agreement provisions and consistently use the name ‘North Macedonia’. Respecting international agreements is a fundamental prerequisite for us as EPP. Otherwise, Europe cannot function and the EU will not accept this,” Weber wrote on X.
VMRO-DPMNE and the Greek ruling party New Democracy are both members of the European People’s Party. This is the first reaction from the EPP after the May 8 elections in the country.
