Skopje, 3 June 2022 (MIA) – Environment Minister Naser Nuredini held working meetings with EU top officials at the sidelines of Stockholm+50, an international meeting convened by the United Nations General Assembly held in Stockholm, Sweden, on June 2-3. During a meeting with Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment Espen Barth Eide, Nuredini thanked Norway in assisting in one of the largest waste removal projects in the country, namely the cleanup of hazardous waste from the disused Ohis industrial plant. The minister also discussed other joint projects aimed at protecting the environment, the Environment Ministry said. During meetings with Virginijus Sinkevičius, European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, and Boris Sandov, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister, talks focused on the state involving the environment with the ministers stressing the need to strengthen border cooperation with Bulgaria in order to fulfill the European standards and national goals. Minister Nuredini also met with Katrin Schneeberger, Director of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), to discuss the Swiss government’s support for North Macedonia involving nature protection and the country’s involvement in declaring Osogovo and Maleshevo protected regions and support in waste management, especially in the Polog region, said the press release.
