Environment Minister Nuredini at COP27 climate summit

Environment Minister Nuredini at COP27 climate summit
Skopje, 8 November 2022 (MIA) – Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Naser Nuredini is attending November 7-9 the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in , affirming North Macedonia’s commitment to undertake its share of global commitments to achieving the aims of the Paris Agreement. As a state party to the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement, we share similar expectations from the international summit, especially in terms of adaptation, financing and transparency. Additionally we support inclusive decisions, based on rules and scientific evidence, led by the principles built on the agreements, decisions, promises and obligations from Rio 1992 to Glasgow 2021, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning said in a press release. The Ministry stated that North Macedonia is striving to contribute towards global climate action by adopting policies and measures aimed at reducing the greenhouse gas emissions and increasing efforts to adapt the most vulnerable sectors with the support of adequate financial flows. We agree, it adds, that a ‘just transition’ remains a priority of developing countries worldwide. Achieving the aims of the Paris Agreement requires that everyone works together in order to limit global warming to no more than 2°C. We have to implement new solutions and innovations which would help soften the blows of climate change. Additionally, we need to replicate and rapidly scale up all other climate-friendly solutions for implementation in developing countries. North Macedonia shares similar challenges in regards to achieving the goals set by the international community, as well as those set by the European legislation and the ministerial meetings within the Energy Community. We are all committed to implementing the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, which requires vision, leadership and a set of strategic, judicial, organizational and procedural infrastructure. North Macedonia is committed to meeting all prerequisites for integrated climate action. We have adopted a set of documents necessary for decarbonized growth and are finalizing the legal framework. COP27 will be the moment for all countries to fulfill their promises and commitments to achieving the aims of the Paris Agreement in order to improve the implementation of the Convention, said the Ministry. On the margins of the Conference, Minister Nuredini will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts, as well as with the executive directors of several international institutions. ad/ik/
