Mucunski on Newsmax: Ensuring peace through diplomatic solutions while respecting territorial integrity of nations is crucial

Skopje, 27 September 2024 (MIA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski during his working visit to the USA for the 79th United Nations General Assembly was a guest on the Newsmax, American TV channel, alongside the US diplomat Richard Grenell.

As stated by the Ministry, the discussion focused on the current geopolitical landscape and the Macedonian perspective on global developments.

In this direction, Minister Mucunski stressed the need of allocating at least 2% of GDP to defence, a principle respected by our government, since it is not just a proactive method, but funds specifically intended for defence, which is a key aspect of NATO policy.

Speaking about the relations between our country and the USA, Mucunski highlighted in the interview that both sides have excellent relations based on strategic partnership.

“We will always align ourselves with the foreign policy of the USA, as we believe it represents the right approach to ensuring peace in the world and maintaining the global order. We need to find peace, and we consider the USA to be a key nation in achieving that peace,” Mucunski stated during the discussion.

He emphasized that greater and more intense diplomatic efforts are necessary to ensure peace on a global scale, in accordance with the principles of international public law, while also guaranteeing the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all nations.

"I am happy to see that, not everybody, but more and more nations are starting to speak about peace. The key agreement here is finding a diplomatic solution, not at all cost. I fundamentally assert, coming from a region that must respect the principles of international public law, that we need peace, we need a diplomatic solution, but one that does not allow another nation to bilaterally destroy the territorial integrity and sovereignty of another nation," Mucunski said.
