EC: Revisionism, genocide denial contradict European values
Zagreb, 24 July 2021 (Hina/MIA) - The European Commission has taken note of High Representative Valentin Inzko's decision on changes to Bosnia's criminal code banning and punishing with imprisonment the denial of war crimes, including the Srebrenica genocide, saying revisionism and genocide denial contradict European values. The office of Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said on Friday they had taken note of the adoption of the genocide denial law and Inzko's decision. "Let us be clear: Revisionism and genocide denial contradict the most fundamental European values," the office said. Borrell's spokesperson said reconciliation was one of the key priorities for BiH on its EU journey. "The EU expects Bosnia and Herzegovina leaders to act in a sovereign manner to take concrete steps and promote an environment conducive to reconciliation in order to overcome the legacies of the war," the spokesperson said. "The EU is unequivocally committed to the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The EU strongly calls on all political leaders to refrain from using inflammatory and divisive rhetoric, and from taking any steps which could undermine the country’s EU perspective," she added.
