Durmishi: Price freeze decision ready if price hikes continue

Skopje, 27 December 2024 (MIA) - The Government will not take a decision to freeze prices for the time being, because prices of products have been dropping since yesterday, said Minister of Economy and Labor Besar Durmishi on Friday.

Minister Durmishi warned traders that the price freeze decision is ready and a Government session will be scheduled immediately if hikes continue.

"The decision to freeze prices is ready but we will not put it forward to the Government yet because we are monitoring the situation. If prices start to go up, I will ask for an emergency Government session and propose a price freeze. Traders have reduced prices after our warning," said Durmishi.

He added that the State Market Inspectorate reported that prices of some basic food products have been reduced by 20-25 percent.

"In addition, over 50 new products have been added to the New Year's Basket, with the number reaching 1,180 products," said Durmishi.

The Minister noted that prices are monitored on a daily basis and said that if traders attempt to increase prices again, the Government will take corresponding decisions, followed by fines and even shutting down markets.
