DUI's highest body to convene on Monday ahead of Constitutional Court session on languages law

Skopje, 7 December 2024 (MIA) - The presidency of the opposition Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) has decided at an extraordinary meeting last night to convene the party's highest body on Monday ahead of the Constitutional Court session scheduled for December 11 on the Law on the Use of Languages, "in order to make decisions on further steps and define concrete measures to prevent the government's attempts to destabilize the country," the party said in a press release.

"Last night, the presidency of the Democratic Union for Integration held a meeting to assess the concerning situation caused by the Constitutional Court session scheduled for December 11, which aims to repeal the Law on the Use of Languages and, thereby, annul the Ohrid Framework Agreement and the peace it established. The leadership assessed that these actions are part of an orchestrated campaign by the illegitimate government and pose a serious threat to the stability of the country and the interethnic harmony. In view of this unacceptable situation, the leadership decided to convene the party's highest body on Monday, in order to make decisions on further steps and define concrete measures to prevent the government's attempts to destabilize the country," reads the press release.

Also, it adds, "we once again call on all actors involved in this monstrous and extremely dangerous plan to stop this madness, as the consequences will be unimaginable".

"DUI remains committed to protecting the Ohrid Framework Agreement and all achievements that guarantee equality and peace in North Macedonia. In these crucial moments, we call on all citizens and international actors to remain united in defending peace and stability," the press release reads.
